Niels Snooij

Brings several fields together in his work, hoping that together they show a little more than each could on its own. He is drawn to the questions that do not fit neatly within a single field, and looks for a way into them patiently.

He builds his own models and methods, trying, piece by piece, to order and connect raw data until a question becomes testable. Sometimes a pattern emerges, often it does not, and it is exactly that distinction he tries to make honestly.

He would rather let the data speak than his own assumptions. What he finds he holds gently: he knows a conclusion is rarely finished, and stays open to the possibility that he is wrong.

The work asks for patience. Much of it is slow and quiet: looking again, recalculating, and assuming that the first impression is usually not the whole truth.

What drives him is not being right, but understanding. He would take a small, honest step forward over a large, beautiful story that does not hold up.
